And I archive some programs I record to DVD. Tried recommended hookup from Toshiba manual and cannot view satellite but can see Toshiba menu screen. Although this is not as high in quality as the direct input, it is still not shabby at all. Does this help? I am recording from family VHS tapes. The LG's is on the front (so your cables show which is not the most esthetic). That is why your recorder does not have an HDMI input.
If you want to watch cable without having to have the recorder on, I wouldn't recommend leaving it on, connect the coax out to the TV. Plug back in. Is it a setting on my recorder I need to change or the way I have it connected to the dvr. Everywhere I've looked on the internet as of this date (Aug. 15, 2006), there are no HD DVR's (with dual tuners) that come with a DVD Recorder attached to it.
