Mac Stopped Recognizing External Hard Drive


An external hard drive may be compatible with multiple Operating Systems. I am too. You should know that when I select the drive in Disk Utility it does seem like my data is there. It chaps me that the computer world does not have a standard format. That will probably show it needs reformatting (and possibly repartioning). External Hard Drive Not Showing Up In Disk Utility Interestingly, the data part of the partitioned drive is now MS-DOS (FAT) instead of OS X Extended.Does this make a difference to my options? When I connect the drive to Mac, a pop-up window prompts if I want to connect the drive whether to Mac or to Windows - I choose Windows.

Many thanks, Nigel. It does not address hardware problems and is unlikely to recover data when hardware is the cause of the problem. The most likely cause that you don't see it is that it isn't formatted any more. These drives mostly contain .m4p and m4v files.
