Untriaging it so that it gets addressed. Just a guess. I also run dual monitors and have the additional problem that many times after waking up, the right monitor no longer has a video signal. Sorry maximizing by task bar doesnt seem to help. weblink
You can either restart Explorer or minimize every FF window and maximize every FF window. It might have been there for a longer time, but I started using the auto-hide feature at the time of XP. But what doesn't seem to be an issue is that the only work around after step 5 is to reboot the system or restart explorer or restart firefox/ IE. I changed one method signature and broke 25,000 other classes.

What is also poor is that when hidden the taskbar shows 1px, I guess so it can capture mouse over, however the pixels are coloured differently when an applications is active

In Windows 10 If you are in Windows 10 you'll need to go to System -> Notifications and Actions instead and click on "Select which icons appear on the taskbar". Restarting Explorer or rebooting are the only ways I have found to fix the taskbar problem. check over here This kind of sucks, but the default browser thing isn't that big of a deal.
